Chairmans Update

Welcome to the 2016-17 Season

Well it doesn’t seem 2 minutes since the end of last season and another successful gala season. Now all I am hearing is “Soon be Christmas!”

Well we have a lot of football to play as a club before then and I just wanted to take an opportunity to share with our players and parents some of the key developments for the club.

As many of you will know as part of our 15 year celebration we have introduced a new kit supplier and new badge which over the coming 2 seasons we will see all our teams in the new Macron kit. We have a club shop which will allow you to purchase additional items go to club shops and look for Woodkirk Valley club badge.
Ruth Stott who has a daughter in the U8s girls has taken a new position in the club as Girls Secretary. Over the last 3 years we have seen the girls section grow year on year, Ruth will support the managers coaches and our FDO to continue to grow the girls game. We are supporting this development through the Grow the Game week in October.

Dan Thorpe has been appointed treasurer. Dan comes with a massive amount of experience in managing financial accounts and developing financial systems which will help us plan for the future as we grow. Dan also assists with the U13s girls and the new Goalkeeping sessions.

We have a new Child Welfare Officer Craige Richardson, Craige has a daughter playing in the U13s girls and his youngest daughter is playing for Leeds United. Craige has some great ideas for supporting the all round development of all the children in the club. If you have any concerns regarding the welfare of your child please contact Craige directly (email or phone number Craige)

Iain Macdonald who is also the boys under 8s manager is looking after the website and social media and would welcome good news stories for the pages. He is keen to get as many stories about games, results and your team as much as we can, we want to see every age group posting on the sites for more information about getting stories on the club sites please contact Iain

We are fortunate enough to have great facilities up at the club and continue to invest in these. Due to the age of the clubhouse, we are having to have a new roof fitted. Along with this we are installing new shutters on all windows and doors, replacing the old grilles. The drive way and paths to the club have become very rutted and we are looking at improving this along with the car parking. Once this work is complete we can then stat to plan the refurbishment of the inside. We will be asking for help with this over the coming months – watch this space.

Andy Foster is looking after the pitches and the ground and is doing a really great job and we have had numerous comments about the quality of the surface after we have spent money on getting them vertidrained and reseeded. We will be feeding the pitches in a week or two to help maintain the quality over the winter period.

We will start to train at our winter venues next week and we have a very strong presence at Woodkirk Academy where we will continue to use the indoor sports hall and the new 3G astro turf. The soccer school run by Andy Smith has great numbers and we look forward to a great year for our cubs!!

We have a very exciting season ahead including our annual bonfire on Saturday 5th November and we will be announcing dates for our Galas and make sure you have the 15th July in your diary for Woodfest.

I will update on club progress as we get to Christmas!!

Wishing everyone involved in the club the very best for the season
