U16s show character to hold on to first league win of the new campaign

FT Woodkirk 2 – 1 Bramley Phoenix.

The under 16’s were prompted three division following their amazing 2016/2017 campaign after going unbeaten in all 17 league fixtures, winning 16 of them.

On paper this game was going to be a challenge, our opposition Bramley were much the stronger team and having only lost three games in the last two seasons, with a promotion last season it was going to be a tough start in this league for the lads, last time the two teams meet Bramley won 18-1.

Bramley where quick out of the blocks and were 1-0 to the good within minutes.
Woodkirk settled after nervous 10 minutes into most probably the best passing game that they have played, and had the opposition on the back foot for the remainder of the half, with two goals by playing the ball into danger areas.

HT Woodkirk 2-1 Bramley Phoenix

Bramley came out stronger in the second half and broke up the earlier passing display of Woodkirk, and chances for each team few and far between, with maybe one chance that Woodkirk should have finished the game off, but the ball flew over the bar.

A fair result as Woodkirk over the 90 minutes were the better team, but we can see the return fixture being a difficult challenge for the lads.
