U16 Girls New Season- New Look

Woodkirk Valley Wolves U16s, started the new season with a fresh look to the squad, after the unexpected departure of the assistant coach and a number of players. The summer break saw the management team rebuild and bring in new girls with a desire to play football!!

New players have come from across the area with

  • Jess Cooling Defender coming from Batteyford Belles
  • Aimee Wilde Winger coming from Bradford City
  • Naomi Bibby Defender / Midfield from Batley Storm
  • Abi Bibby Defender / Midfield from Batley Storm
  • Millie Padgett Striker from Gomersal/Cleckheaton
  • Chloe Richardson Winger Batteyford Belles

The opening game of the season saw Marsden Mustangs visit the Wolves.  Woodkirk had managed 2 preseason games which had looked promising with wins over Whittkirk and local rivals Tingley Athletic.

Woodkirk started the game well dominating possession and territory with Marsden unable to break out of their own half. The team made a number of opportunities and within 10 minutes were 2-0 up with Mia’s pace and trickery too much for the Marsden defence.

Strong performances from back to front kept the opportunities for Marsden to a minimum in the first half.  Marsden came more into the game in the second half but the wolves continued to look dangerous going forward.   With goals from Mia Millie and an 18 yard lob of the keeper from Ava resulted in a 6-1 opening win of the season.  (Mia 4, Millie 1, Ava 1)

Well done to the new girls that have slotted in well and have really worked hard in training. Looking forward to the season ahead as you develop as players and as a team.  #wearewolves
