Sunday 21st October 2018 – Wrenthorpe vs Woodkirk Valley U15’s
This years Division 2 is proving to be a competitive league and Woodkirk’s away performance last week to North East Leeds proved the point as they were on the wrong end of a 5-1 scoreline. It was a poor performance from the lads and one they were looking to put right this morning.
With Ben still out injured and Louie unavailable, Adam was asked to play out of position in the back three and Woodkirk went into the game with just one substitute. From the first to the last whistle, Woodkirk were well in charge of the game and with Wrenthorpe allowing them space and time on the ball, they played some quality stuff. The first half finished 1-2 with goals being scored by Brad on 17 mins from a Harrison free kick and Tulips scoring a sweet left foot volley after his initial header hit the cross bar on 22 mins. Wrenthorpe pulled one back before the break and the 1-2 scoreline really did flatter them.
1-2 at HT.
The lads took the field for the second half determined to do better than convert just two chances from the numerous that they created in the first half. The second half belonged to Dermot and Brad who put in fine displays and were well supported by their teammates. Brad scored on 46 and 63 minutes to complete his hat-trick and Dermot followed suit with goals on 60, 72 and 76 minutes. Tulips completed the scoring on 78 minutes after fine run and cross by Curley to make it 2-8 to Woodkirk at full time.
2-8 Woodkirk at FT.
A quality team performance which puts lasts weeks result to bed. On any other Sunday the MoM would have been given to either Brad or Dermot and choosing between them would have been a tough call. A special mention also to Adam and Faz for playing in unfamiliar positions – Adam played the full game in central defense and looked comfortable as did Faz when he took Tony’s place following an injury. However, JP stepped up to the mark today and along with making a couple of fine saves, he also set up Dermot’s goal on 76 minutes with a fine piece of distribution. MoM went to JP and the lads are well aware that we win as a team and lose as a team.
Next week Woodkirk are at home to HSM Chargers.
