On what turned out to be a sunny September morning, Woodkirk came away with the full three points that were on offer after completing a 1-5 win away to HSM Chargers. The only disappointment came in 73rd minute when complacency allowed HSM to score a consolation goal. It would have been nice for the lads to come away with a clean sheet, particularly as the defensive unit were so dominant.
By half time Woodkirk were 2 nil up – Brad scored the first on 13 mins after a well played ball over the top by Fyn. Tulips scored on 35 mins after he flicked the ball in from a corner taken by Brad. For the amount of possession and chances created the halftime scoreline somewhat flattered HSM but Woodkirk’s finishing was not up to scratch.
Woodkirk scored three second half goals – Brad bagged his second of the game on 51 mins after a nice through ball from Captain Sam and Dermot latched onto a fine ball from Ben on 56 mins to score following some intricate passing in defense. Tony completed the scoring for Woodkirk with the goal of the game on 63 mins as he dribbled the ball out of defense and slotted past the keeper.
At this point the game was becoming easy for Woodkirk and a momentary loss of concentration allowed HSM to score their only goal of the game and one they really didn’t deserve. Apart from this occasion, Woodkirk’s defense were well on top and looked like they had learned the lessons from the previous two Sundays. Everyone in the squad performed at a high level today but the MoM went to Captain Sam who stood out as the leader in the heart of defense.
Next week Woodkirk are at home to HSM Stallions.
