Sharks dominate today’s game from start to finish but could only manage a 1-1 draw. Their only goal came from a deflected shot from centre forward Ben Harris. Sharks need to turn these performances in to victories with more shots on target. Piranhas faced a though Horforth side. They struggle to compete with their pace and flair end ended up losing the game. The U10′s now have a long break and don’t play again until 19th January (at home vs Rothwell Juniors). Enjoy the break!
Man of the Match – Ben Harris (Sharks); Harry Baker (Piranhas)
After another fine performance Sharks were unfortunate not to hold out for a well deserved victory. In the end they had to settle for a 1-1 draw (goal scored by Bradley Stott). Harry Bellwood put in an inspired performance in the middle of midfield and was unfortunate not to collect the MoM award. Piranhas had an off day and struggled to compete against a Stanningley side who had plenty of shots on target. U10′s next game is a rearranged fixture at Home vs Horsforth Galaxy on 1st December.
Man of the Match – Harrison Smith (Sharks); Dan Mawson (Piranhas)
After a 2 week break the Sharks almost repeated the 2-1 scoreline vs Leeds Maccabi but a last second goal ment they had to settle for a 2-2 draw. Goals came from Bradley Stott and Ben Harris in a solid performance from the boys. The Piranhas lost 1-0 but defended well and were unlucky not to convert one of their chances.
Man of the Match – Harry Bellwood (Sharks); Ashley Holdsworth (Piranhas)
U10′s Sharks secured their first victory of the season with a hard fought 2-1 win away to Leeds Maccabi. Goals from Harrison Smith and Sam Cowling in the first half were enough to see the boys home. Sharks team lined up with; Joel Kay, Tony Delis, Sam Cowling, Harrison Smith, Harry Bellwood, Adam Smith and Ben Harris. All the boys contributed to the victory and gave 100% on a heavy pitch. Well done boys!
Piranhas were on the wrong side of 4-0 scoreline in which they struggled to compete in the first half. The second half was much better but the goal never came. Piranhas team was; Ashley Holdsworth, Jack Zolts, Thomas Riding, Reese Oakland, Ben Pink, Teddy Spindler and Dan Mawson.
Man of the Match – Sam Cowling (Sharks); Jack Zolts (Piranhas)
The U10’s girls made the short trip down the hill to Batley in what proved to be a nail biting game for both sets of spectators with a number of missed chances and great saves from Errin Tabor in the Woodkirk goal. The girls tried to play football and there was some great interplay. The goal came deep into the second half with Lois Appleyard turning on the edge of the box and sliding the ball into the bottom corner. There was a nervous last couple of minutes for the parents with the team holding on for the win. Well Done Girls first win but I am sure there’s more to come.
Well done to our Under 10′s Piranhas for picking up their first points of the season vs Bardsey. The game was a thrilling encounter which ended 3-3. The Sharks were on the wrong side of a 6-2 scoreline but once again deserved so much more from the game.
Man of the Match – Harrison Smith (Sharks); Tony Delis (Piranhas)
Good Luck to the U10’s Girls who play there second game of the season on Saturday 19th October. The team kicked off the season against Norristhorpe who have been unbeaten in 2 years and scoring on average more than 10 goals a game and with Woodkirk only playing 2 friendlies before this season there was a heightened anxiety going into the game. The girls have been working hard in training and as a squad they are good athletes, so as coaches we were interested to see where we were in relation to other teams no better test than the best team in the area!!. Straight from the kick off it was clear that the game would be competitive and parents and coaches were a little surprised in the way the girls competed with the Norristhorpe team. It was clear that Norristhorpe had the edge in terms of team play and positional sense but having played for 2 seasons that was always going to be the case. The girls played with passion, enthusiasm they all worked really hard with glimpses of skill and composure that we work on in training. They gave 100% which we were very proud of! In the end Norristhorpe ran out 5-1 winners. With a fantastic strike from Lacy Dawson rifling into the top corner, scoring Woodkirk Girls there first competitive goal!!! The manager and parents of Norristhorpe were very surprised and complimentary of the girls performance and said that was the most competitive game they had played. Well done girls!! Batley this week away.
The girls train on a Friday at Woodkirk High School 5.30 – 6.30 all girls are welcome from yr 1 to year 6.

Good luck to our U10′s in their League Cup fixtures against Farsley Celtic on Sunday 6th Oct. The first game will KO at 10:30am and will be played at The Den.
Another 2 away fixtures and another 2 defeats for the U10′s Sharks (3-0) and Piranhas (4-0). However, once again, both Sharks and Piranhas performances deserved much more reward then the scoreline suggests. The pitches appeared to have not been cut for for many weeks and both teams struggled trying to play their passing football. The boys need to keep their heads up, keep the faith with the style of football they want to play and the results will come.
Man of the Match; Harry Bellwood (Sharks), Ben Pink (Piranhas)
